Theatres & Live Performance Venues

Open Stage Sweeny Todd

You don’t have to travel to bigger cities to enjoy incredible performances. Harrisburg’s theatres give audiences the magic of intimate and grand spaces alike. Hear the thunderous sounds of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra in the beautiful Forum Auditorium near the Capitol or take the kids to see a children’s show at Gamut Theatre in Midtown. Harrisburg is full of live music venues where every seat (or standing room only space!) can feel like a front row experience to touring artists and bands.

Did you know? Midtown Cinema offers a nostalgic cinema house experience for audiences looking for indie flicks or current releases.

Museums & Galleries

Art Association of Harrisburg - Free Things to Do

Local and national artists showcase their work in galleries across Harrisburg. Rotating exhibits introduce guests to new works throughout the year, so make plans to come back and see something new as the seasons change! Interactive museums inspire curiosity and learning for guests of all ages.

Did you know? The Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts has a 40-foot high by 70-foot wide digital screen that immerses audiences in educational films or holiday features in a 200-seat auditorium.

Murals

Art is truly everywhere! Colorful murals rise stories above the city streets to showcase the talents of local and world-renowned muralists. Murals reflect the city’s character with diverse subjects and bright colors. They tell the story of community and culture through striking visuals that greet neighbors and visitors.

Did you know? Some murals are painted on canvas that’s applied to the walls, while some artists paint directly on the building’s surface.

Monuments

Monuments for Tile

From monuments that date back centuries to newer memorials, sculptures and markers across Harrisburg recognize the impact of events, people, places, and projects.

Throughout Riverfront Park, monuments highlight the city’s founder and the river’s role in the region’s industrial history. There are monuments to memorialize those who fought in wars or dedicated their lives to public service. They are all set with a scenic view of the Susquehanna River and the city skyline.

Did you know? John Harris Sr. was deeded hundreds of acres along the Susquehanna River. He’s buried on the bank of the Susquehanna near the spot where he developed a thriving trading post. His son, John Harris Jr., founded Harrisburg.
