Millworks

Art. Food. Brewery.

Millworks is a Midtown Harrisburg destination centered on cuisine, creativity, and craft beer. Its “from scratch” restaurant, onsite brewery, art gallery and artist studios make it a hub of entertainment in Harrisburg’s Capital City.

The Food

You might expect Millworks Brewmaster Terry Hawbaker to say his work is all about the craft beer, but – as he tells it – it’s really all about the food. Millworks, he reminds us, is first and foremost, a restaurant. The kitchen’s dedication to a locally sourced, seasonally rotating menu gives Hawbaker a constant stream of fresh ideas to consider when he’s crafting a new brew.

“The seasons do mean something here,” Hawbacker says. He loves that it carries the feel of a classic brew pub where his work allows him to stay close to what’s happening in the kitchen and in the dining areas. He’s able to keep a pulse on what guests enjoy most for food and craft beer pairings as the seasons change.

The Beer

As the dining menus change, so do the brewery options. Guests will find Stokes Extra Gold (a delicate, clean, light “lager-esque” beer) to be a staple offering. Otherwise, the drafts and cans will be a unique rotation of fresh Lagers, IPAs, barrel-aged Saisons, and special event brews like an aged 10% barley wine.

Hawbaker says a rotation keeps things “fun and interesting,” and he’s able to guide production with an eye on small batch sizes and access to local, in-season ingredients. With more than 30 years of brewing experience across homebrewing, brewpubs, and production facilities, he’s still engaged and excited to experiment and create and learn and play on a quest to be “the best.”

The Art

Brewing at Millworks means never having to look far for beer label art inspiration. Hawbaker can stroll through the gallery or artist studios and find a visual vibe that pairs perfectly with his latest batch.

Millworks features a 1st floor gallery and gift shop, and three floors of artist studios. You’ll find more than 40 artists specializing in acrylics, photography, watercolor, candle-making, and more.  An online events calendar features information on classes, workshops, and special events like First Saturdays (open art studios) and The Odd Ones Bizarre each spring that’s open to local makers.

The Space

Millworks gets its name from the Old Stokes Millwork that operated at the site from 1929 to its closure in the 1990s. In 2015, Millworks owner Josh Kesler opened the new restaurant and art gallery constructed with as much of the original structure and reclaimed wood as possible. The brewery was added in 2016.

Guests can dine year-round in the main restaurant with full service and a bar area. A cozy 1st floor, outdoor biergarten that peeks into an artist workshop area, and the casual-leaning-play-games-and-seat-yourself 165-seat rooftop biergarten are open seasonally.

The restaurant is generally open for dinner Tuesday-Thursday, lunch and dinner Friday and Saturday, and brunch and dinner on Sundays.

BONUS: Guests can enjoy convenient and FREE parking in the Millworks lot right next to the venue. Millworks is in many ways an anchor to Harrisburg’s Midtown neighborhood where art, music, food, and small businesses thrive with a sense of culture and community. Spend an hour. Spend a day. Spend a weekend in one of Harrisburg’s gem locations.
