Liquid Noise is tucked into a strip of businesses along Route 15 in Marysville, PA. From the outside it may blend into its surroundings, but inside it’s a bright and welcoming vibe for great flavor and good company. With live music every Friday and Saturday, a 55-foot wave-live epoxy bar, a hearty menu and delicious craft beer, the team at Liquid Noise invites you to sit down and stay a while.
Like most brewers, Sean Carson’s journey to a head brewing position started with a passion for home brewing. He challenged himself to make true-to-style brews as a home brewer, and replicates that now as he’s making larger batches. “If I'm giving you an Irish Red, it's an Irish Red. If it's a Belgian Triple, it's a Belgian Triple. I want to be sure that you're getting as near as I can get you to be sitting in a pub in England or in a monastery in Belgium,” Carson says.
Taking pride in consistency doesn’t mean there aren’t experiments. Carson says the key, though, is to experiment a little at a time. He likens brewing new beers to steering a cruise ship. Turn the wheel just a little and people don’t notice, but over time you’ve changed course to a new flavor.
“When you’re home you can make whatever you want. When you run a brewery, the customers tell you what you need to make,” he says. Carson says community feedback is important because at the end of the day, it’s all about the patrons.
Three series of craft beer make up part of the Liquid Noise menu. Frequency (sour series), Pulse (Experimental IPA series), and Dreams (fruited wheat series) allow Carson to play from a base style and make those small steering adjustments for new flavors experiences over time. Carson’s favorite beer to brew (and to drink) is the seasonal Aisling - Irish Red Ale. It goes back to the challenge he loves so much. “The beer is finicky. People who know them know when you’ve done it wrong.”
The best-selling beer at Liquid Noise is Captain Murica Light Lager, named after one of the brewers' friend who is a retired marine. “People love a light lager,” Carson says. “It’s refreshing.”
“Refreshing” is exactly what a lot of patrons might be looking for after a day of adventure. Located along the Susquehanna River and a short distance from many popular trails, Liquid Noise is a great spot to cool down after hiking and kayaking.
Patrons can see the brewing operations from the seating areas, adding to the all-in-the-family vibe that Liquid Noise embraces. With a narrow space, there isn’t much room for added décor, but the team makes an exception for some old lagering barrels that represent the early days of the brewing industry. Pinball machines and trivia add to the laid back ambiance as well.
Part-owner Justin Schaefer is proud that Liquid Noise brings a gathering place to the community. Moreover, the brewery happily sponsors youth sports programs and works with local farmers to make good use of spent grain.
The menu is full of items that will fill you up from strombolis to smashburgers. You can find gluten free and vegan options on a menu from a kitchen that likes to “elevate the staples” instead of a menu that’s complicated or stuffy. Again, it’s all about giving the patrons what they want; a place to refuel and relax.
