Peter's Mountain Ridge

This 4.2 mile loop follows a section of the famed Appalachian Trail. Located north of Harrisburg near Halifax, Pa, the heavily-trafficked, moderate trail has an elevation gain of 1,200 feet.

Hiking along the Appalachian trail to reach the top of Peter's Mountain is well worth the climb. Two notable vistas, Peter's Mountain Dauphin Overlook and Sherman's Peek Vista treat hikers to breathtaking views of the Susquehanna River and the beautiful mountains in the distance. This unique trail combines the challenge of some rocky sections along the ridge, a series of switchbacks, and an iconic rock formation for a great workout and and rewarding hiking experience. 

Getting there: 

Parking is available at the Clark's Ferry Park & Ride. The trail starts by the Appalachian Trail sign near Rt. 147 and railroad tracks. With the Clark's Ferry bridge behind you, head for the stone wall just past the railroad tracks. Please be careful, these are active tracks.
