Stony Valley Rail Trail

Stony Valley Rail-Trail provides 19 miles of family-friendly trails on a moderately-trafficked loop near Dauphin, Pennsylvania. The old railroad bed runs from Ellendale Forge near Dauphin Borough to just south of Tower City, PA, passing several abandoned towns and the ruins of a former resort. Reminder: Be aware of hunting season while utilizing any trail that runs through State Game Lands. Wear appropriate bright orange attire during hunting season.

Seasonal Activities

The trail follows Stony Creek, a stream that offers year-round fishing opportunities. It’s one of the few streams without an off-season no fishing designation. A popular time to visit this section is in October, as the leaves change into a vibrant mix of fall colors. The Pennsylvania State Game Commission opens the trail to vehicles one time each year for a special driving tour. Cars line up hours before the event, but the wait is worth it!
