Main Street, USA

Rubber Soul might one of the new kids on the block having first opened their doors in 2020, but the team immediately embraced the tight knit Main Street feel of Hummelstown, PA. They embraced it so much that when it came to expanding their footprint, brewery operations were built out just a few blocks away.  With a full service, 90-seat restaurant plus a more intimate taproom and patio location, Rubber Soul is both a community gathering place and a spot for out-of-town guests looking for a spot to relax and indulge in local vibes.

The Fabric of Hummelstown

Hummelstown knows how to throw a party. The annual event calendar is full of fairs, festivals, and special events. Not to be outdone, Rubber Soul is always up for a release party. At the new taproom on Hanover Street, a huge outdoor patio is the perfect spot to welcome friends, family, and neighbors, and anyone who loves great craft beer. General Manager Connor Smith says release parties, and any event at Rubber Soul, further embed the brewery into the fabric of the community. “We get to interact with guests in an intimate way, “Smith says. “We have regulars but we’re also seeing traffic from Hershey concerts and visitors to the region.”

Meals and Mug Clubs

At the full restaurant location, a fresh menu is packed with fun fare like lobster tacos, smash burgers and craft pizzas. You’ll always find a light beer, something darker, and a sour as the taps feature something for all craft beer tastes. Rubber Soul balances variety with tradition. Smith’s favorite is “The Duke,” an “almost-always-on-tap” Belgian Tripel. Other standards rightly include a familiar sense of place; Hummelstown Lager and Hummelstown ICE.

A large circle stands out in Rubber Soul’s logo, and that circular experience is the foundation of the brewery’s mug club. Social Circle members – with their personalized Yeti mug of course - meet every third Sunday for food, a free craft beer, and community conversation.

From Home Brewer to Head Brewer

Homebrewing was just a hobby for Donovan Krebs, and now it’s a career. Tasting craft beer became an exercise of exploration. “I wonder how you make this?” And then, “can I make this?”

As a home brewer, Krebs says he was just “winging it.”  As head brewer at Rubber Soul, he loves the responsibility and discipline that he brings to his role in creating the brewery’s craft beer lineup. Now overseeing expanded production in the brewery’s new 15-barrel brewing system with four 30-barrel fermenters, Krebs is happy to get his hands dirty. “I’d go crazy at a desk,” he says.

Krebs’ favorite craft beer to brew is…anything new. Fan favorites will always be on tap, but Krebs loves the process of finding a new taste or twist and presenting something new. Speaking of fan favorites, November is a great time to visit Rubber Soul if you’re a fan of annual releases. That’s when Rubber Soul rolls out its new batch of Frosted Citra, a “supercharged” IPA intensely hopped with Cryo-Citra and with notes of mango, peach, and citrus in every pour.  When it’s gone, it’s gone – so of course that calls for a Rubber Soul release party each November to celebrate its return!
