(Harrisburg, PA | July 31, 2024) – Visit Hershey & Harrisburg (VHH) today unveiled the new Harrisburg Arts District App. The app is the latest effort in an ongoing initiative to promote the Harrisburg Arts District, a walkable region of the Capital City thriving with performance venues, art galleries, museums, theatres, murals, monuments, public art, special events, and unique places to eat, drink, and shop.

The app is a free and convenient tool for visitors to use not only in the trip planning stage, but also as an onsite guide while exploring the Harrisburg Arts District.

Visitors can use the app to:

  • search by categories to find murals, performance venues, events, museums, galleries, monuments, shopping, and places to eat.
  • take audio tours of colorful murals and historic monuments.
  • create and share a customized itinerary with planning and mapping features.

The app is part of an overall promotional effort that also includes the Harrisburg Arts District website, trifold map (distributed at several Arts District locations), and advertising campaigns to raise awareness that the Harrisburg Arts District is an exciting and diverse Arts & Culture destination for all ages and interests.

The app’s development was made possible in part by a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Creative Communities Grant. Ongoing VHH advertising campaigns promoting the Harrisburg Arts District have been made possible in part by the Dauphin County Commissioners through Dauphin County Tourism Grants.

“The Harrisburg Arts District is an “at-your-fingertips” tool to plan a day of exploration in the heart of the Capital City’s arts & culture scene,” said VHH President & CEO Mary Smith. “It helps to show not only how many exciting things there are to see and do, but also how close and accessible they are in relation to each other,” Smith continued.

The free app is available for both iPhone and Android devices. Find the details at hbgartsdist.com.

About The Harrisburg Arts District

The Harrisburg Arts District is centered around (but not limited to) the 3rd Street corridor beginning in Midtown and stretching past the PA State Capitol Complex and Whitaker Center. Riverfront Park is also noted as a venue for summer concerts, city events, and various monuments.

The Harrisburg Arts District is within a defined footprint and a walkable district comprised of existing arts & entertainment options that allows VHH, participating arts organizations, and community supporters to promote the city’s arts scene as whole. Collaborative promotions can broaden the reach of individual arts organizations and venues to help bring additional visitors and attendees to the Harrisburg Arts District.

The Harrisburg Arts District is the latest addition to a collection of VHH Trails & Experiences and Cultural Guides designed to package certain themes within the region’s many tourism assets in a way that makes it easy for visitors and residents to navigate a tailored set of experiences. Other Trails & Experiences include:

•          Brew Barons Beer Trail (free, interactive mobile passport)
•          Chocolate & More Sweet Treat Trail (free, interactive mobile passport)
•          Adventure Trail (online travel resource)
•          The Black Travel Experience (online travel resource)
•          Bienvenido | Latino Travel Initiative (online travel resource)
