Susquehanna River Fishing Features Adventure Trail

The mighty Susquehanna River flows 444 miles from Cooperstown, NY before emptying into the Chesapeake Bay. It’s the longest river on the East Coast of the United States, but we’re partial to the 46 miles that flow through the Hershey Harrisburg Region! The river is well-known for its Smallmouth bass fishing, and it’s common to find fishing tournaments near Harrisburg. Catfish are on the move here as well. Cast your line from a boat, kayak, or set up on the quiet riverbanks.

Highlighted Section #1 - Fort Hunter Access

Just north of the city of Harrisburg, a fishing access point at Fort Hunter Park offers a quiet and serene setting that’s perfect for novices and seasoned anglers alike. The river in this section is nearly a mile wide. You might be here for the fish, but we’ll bet a HERSHEY’S bar or two that you’ll remember the Susquehanna summer sunsets for life!

Highlighted Section #2 - City Island North Tip

Harrisburg City Island is home to a Double-A professional baseball stadium, miniature golf, children’s areas and other outdoor activities. At the south end of the island, a popular boat ramp boasts ample parking and access to a section of the river that paints the foreground of the city skyline. While motorized fishing is common from this access, there are important notes about this region. It’s just upstream from a dangerous dam that must be avoided for safety. Recreational boat and kayak traffic can be heavy at times (especially around holidays.) Wading is not an option at this access.
