Harris Switch Tower Museum

Details

The Harrisburg Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) welcomes you to one of the best preserved railroad towers, located in the heart of downtown Harrisburg and steps away from the State Capitol Complex. The Tower, which was used to control railroad switches in the vicinity of the State Street Bridge, was built by the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad in 1929. This structure, and the army of people who controlled this Tower, served the railroads in the area faithfully until the early 1990s when it was purchased by the Chapter for preservation. Today it stands as a fully restored (and operational) museum, still telling the tale of Harrisburg's rich railroad history.

Open every Saturday from Memorial Day Weekend until the last Saturday in October. Air conditioned and a great place for railfans to enjoy and photograph trains. Note, due to the historic nature of the structure, we are not handicapped/ADA accessible.
