VHH Hires Jason Meckes as new Experience Development Director

Meckes will be leading the development of tourism programs and visitor experiences for Dauphin County’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).

Jason Meckes Headshot 2019HARRISBURG, PA (Sept. 26, 2019) — Mary Smith, President and CEO of Visit Hershey & Harrisburg (VHH) today announced the hiring of Jason Meckes as Experience Development Director.

In his new role, Meckes will work with regional tourism partners and local stakeholders to develop new comprehensive products and experiences that enhance the visitor experience and attract new audiences to the area.

Meckes previously served as the Executive Director of the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society, the non-profit organization that owns and operates the iconic Pride of the Susquehanna riverboat.

“Dauphin County is home to a collection of unique, yet independent tourism-related offerings,” said Smith. “This new position was created to research, develop, and nurture sustainable tourism experiences that will drive overnights and attract new market segments.”

DMOs today are applying greater focus on understanding and fulfilling visitor expectations to maintain their competitive advantage and grow market share in a global market, according to Smith.

Meckes graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

He was named Central Penn Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2018 and earned a Visit Hershey & Harrisburg Partner In Tourism Award in 2015 for a successful cooperative marketing program he initiated as the Founding Chair for the "Friends of City Island" business group.
