Harrisburg, PA – (July 15, 2015) -- The U.S. Figure Skating Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championship will return to the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA in January 2017. The event was last hosted in the Hershey Harrisburg Region in 2012 and 2014. The 2017 event will be co-hosted by the Central PA Figure Skating Club and the Hershey Figure Skating Club and is expected to draw nearly 200 East Coast teams. The event will generate an estimated $1.5 million for the regional economy, according to Tourism Officials.

“When we have previously hosted this championship event it always received rave reviews from the U.S. Figure Skating officials and skaters,” said Gregg Cook, Sports Marketing Manager for the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau (HHRVB). “But it’s also a very important event for our regional business partners and tourism stakeholders.”

Regional businesses who have previously reported positive impacts from this event to the HHRVB include Fenicci’s Of Hershey, Hershey’s® Chocolate World® Attraction, Best Western Premier the Central Hotel Harrisburg/Hershey, Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey, and Fairfield Inn & Suites Harrisburg/Hershey.

Tourism officials express the importance of securing events such as this one taking place during months that are traditionally considered a shoulder tourism season for the region’s hotels, attractions, restaurants and shops.
