The Vineyard at Hershey celebrates first birthday in February 2013

Owners have much to cheers at one-year mark, realizing a dream five years in the making. 

Harrisburg, PA – The Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau (HHRVB) partner  The Vineyard at Hershey popped a few corks today in honor of the winery’s first anniversary. And the crew that owns and operates the winery has much to celebrate since the dream first began five years ago.

In 2008, four men sat at a piano bar in Harrisburg discussing a shared dream of changing the stigma of Pennsylvania wines. The group allowed the idea to ferment for several weeks and then set out to produce “the Pennsylvania wine that will change your mind,” as the legend goes.

In February 2012, The Vineyard at Hershey opened for business and welcomed 608 people on the first day. After a year of dedication and devotion to making the dream come true, the winery has become one of the top-selling wineries in Pennsylvania.

“We accomplished our goal so quickly because we have a great product as our foundation,” said Jason Reimer, co-founder of the Vineyard. “We started with a focus on artfully handcrafting wines that we wanted to drink and that we were proud to offer to our friends. Then we started building from there.”

The blocks to their success included working with wine enthusiasts prior to the opening and allowing the public to select wine names on social media. Then the owners initiated a collective marketing group called the Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country (HHWC). The new collection of 12 wineries in the region quickly grew to 15 in the first year and now produces several  Signature Events and Wine & Music festivals in the region.

“Our social media has been a key ingredient in the initial popularity of our product and now our winery,” said Mike Wilson, co-owner and the social media wizard behind the crimson curtain. “It’s a fun product to promote and I really love the friends we’ve made through the shared love of wine. Every time we have a special weekend or a big event at the winery, it’s now more like getting together with friends than work. Only social media can give you this kind of access to people with a shared passion from all over the Mid- Atlantic region.”

The Vineyard has certainly made friends this year, hosting over 15,000 visitors and becoming a cornerstone in the region for visitors and locals alike.

On February 23, 2013, The Vineyard at Hershey celebrated its first birthday with the release of five wines including its newest Sparkling Moscato. A Partners’ Toast on the deck of the winery’s new 12,000 square- foot wine production headquarters kicked off the celebration that included live music and complimentary tastings of the newly-released wines. Guests also enjoyed special promotions for the winery’s Decked Out Live! summer concert series and the inaugural Napa Valley-style Merlot Release Party.
