Mecum Auctions Harrisburg returns July 2015 adding antique tractors to cars & cycles

Published: Jul 6, 2015

This will be the second year in Harrisburg for Mecum Auctions, considered the world leader of collector car, vintage and antique motorcycle, and Road Art sales.

Harrisburg, PA (July 6, 2015) – Mecum Auctions recently announced their four-day auction at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center (FSC) in Harrisburg from July 30 - August 2 will include the addition of approximately 200 vintage and collectible tractors to the traditional 1,000 collector cars and 200 vintage motorcycles. This is the first time Mecum will feature all three categories during the same auction at one venue.

This will be the second year in Harrisburg for Mecum Auctions, considered the world leader of collector car, vintage and antique motorcycle, and Road Art sales. The Harrisburg auction is one of 24 auctions on the 2015 Mecum Auctions’ calendar and the only event taking place in the region.

Mecum’s first Harrisburg show in 2014 captured the attention of collector car enthusiasts from throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England area with consignments from 32 states. The inaugural event achieved a 70-percent sell-through rate and more than $20 million in total sales, according to Mecum officials. The event also broke Mecum records for attendance at a first-time show location.

“We’re grateful for the reception that we received from the Hershey Harrisburg Region (HHR) last year and are well on our way to presenting another exciting event this year,” said Dana Mecum, President and Founder of Mecum Auctions. “There’s a long-standing passion for collector cars in the area and we’re looking forward to adding antique tractors to the mix of cars and motorcycles that should enhance the event’s regional draw and the ‘Mecum Experience’ in Harrisburg.”

A recent report issued by the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau (HHRVB) listed Mecum Auctions among the region’s Top 10 events in 2014.  According to that report, Mecum ranked as the fifth largest event at the FSC in 2014 for contributing an estimated $10.5 million to the regional economy. The outpouring of support from fans for its inaugural year in the Hershey Harrisburg Region also earned Mecum sixth place for overall attendance, according to the bureau report.

“Mecum Auctions is a powerhouse for our region’s economy,” said Mary Smith, President/CEO of the HHRVB. “In addition to the event attracting an audience of 20,000 fans to the PA Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg over several days, the hours of coverage on the NBC Sports network put our name out to the world.”

This year NBC Sports Network will broadcast a total of 18.5 hours of auction coverage including 5.5 hours live and a live stream of the entire auction will be presented at Mecum.com.
