This 3.5 story Queen Anne Revival style home was built for Harrisburg resident William Donaldson in 1888, who lived in the home until his death in 1925. It features many of the styles common decorative elements; a variety of surface finishes, roof styles, a turret, porches and balconies. The home is located in an enclave of Victorian mansions on an area of Third Street in Harrisburg which contains many of the city’s Queen Anne style homes, all built between 1885 and 1905. The home displays the complexity, irregularity, and decorative details that are hallmarks of the Queen Anne style but done in a restrained manner that suited Harrisburg’s generally conservative atmosphere. The property’s interior was renovated in 1925 and 1968 for conversion to apartments, but retains much of its original integrity.
