Shoop Site 36DA0020

  • East of Enders Jackson Township, PA

This archaeological site located in Jackson and Wayne Townships is the site of a large Paleo-Indian campsite dating from 9000 to 9500 BC. First discovered by George Gordon in the 1930s, it one of the largest known single sites noted for Paleo-Indian occupation in the northeast United States. A large collection of artifacts excavated from the site has provided archaeologists with important information about the technological development and settlement patterns of a very early group of Native settlers.
