Discover breathtaking views at the top of Hawk Rock. This short hike takes about 30 minutes up and overlooks the Susquehanna River. Park at the following coordinates: 40.383009, -77.033086 in a gravel parking lot behind some residential homes and by the Township Recycling Center. From the main parking area, you’ll see a sign and the trail going uphill. Take the trail uphill to get to the Hawk Rock overlook. While somewhat steep and rocky in areas, the trail is easy to follow. Soon you’ll see the Appalachian Trail coming in on your left. Keep going straight, following white blazed trees until you get to the outcropping of rocks. Hawk Rock overlooks mainly Sherman's Creek with some of the Susquehanna visible, but to see the river better, continue on an unofficial trail for about 10-15 more minutes to Cove Mountain Overlook. To get to this overlook, continue following the Appalachian Trail to the crest of the ridge for about 100 yards. The trail follows along the mountaintop of Cove Mountain and is relatively flat. At points, this trail is wide and easy to follow, but at other times, it can be narrow and even a bit difficult to pinpoint. There will be a outcropping that sits at the edge of the mountain and looks over the Susquehanna. To return to your car, retrace your steps.
