Hear the Metta String Quartet
The first Sunday Arts Hour musical program for the new season will be at 3:00pm at the Landis House in Newport.
The Metta String Quartet, founded in 2011, includes Marcus Smolensky and Priscilla Auer, violins; Christopher Para, viola; Rachel Kauffman, cello.
The Metta String Quartet will perform a program of an eclectic and accessible mix of tuneful works. The program includes one of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak’s most beloved works, the ‘American’ quartet. Inspired by the mix of cultures that comprise our nation, this quartet was Dvorak’s response to forging a uniquely American musical language. The Dances of Panama by African-American composer William Grant Still will be also be performed. This joyous work is a toe-tapping celebration of Panamanian folk songs and dances. Music with succulent string sonorities and hummable melodies will round out the program.
The free concert will be followed by refreshments and a chance to meet the performers.
