George Bowerman (classical piano)
Pianist George Bowerman returns to Sunday Arts Hour! Mr. Bowerman performs across the Northeast and in Canada, and has been featured as solo performer at Manhattan’s 57th street Steinway Hall, Newport Rhode Islands’s Belcourt Castle, the Sevenars Music Festival, Gallery 963 in New Haven, at the Heliconian Club in Toronto, Ontario, and on the Calvin J. Mathias Recital Series in Philadelphia. He has also enjoyed presenting recitals at retirement homes and hospice centers, as well as fundraising concerts on behalf of scholarship programs, composers, charities, and international non-profit organizations.
Mr. Bowerman has attended premiere summer programs at New York City’s Steinway Hall, the Eastman School of Music, Brevard Music Center, and the Adamant Music School. He has participated in numerous masterclasses and coachings, including with Martin Canin, Barry Snyder, Lee Kum Sing and Paul Komen.
During his undergraduate years at Dickinson College (B.A., 2012), Mr. Bowerman was awarded for his contribution to the musical life of the college through performance, and graduated with honors in music. While completing his degree in piano performance, he appeared as soloist with the Dickinson Orchestra, as collaborative pianist with students and faculty, and presented a recital of significant modern works by the German and Austrian-born American composers Stefan Wolpe and Raoul Pleskow that featured a world premiere.
From 2012-2015, Mr. Bowerman resided in Toronto, Ontario to pursue intensive study with pianists Jamie Parker and Christina Petrowska Quilico, musicologist Austin Clarkson, and lessons in the Alexander Technique. He participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival of Toronto, the Ontario Music Festival Provincial Finals, and the North York Music Festival of Ontario, where he received top prizes and scholarships.
Other recent honors include Second Prize in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, a semi-finalist finish in the Seattle International Piano Competition, and the distinction of “Best Advanced Pianist” in the North York Music Festival.
Mr. Bowerman currently studies privately with John O’Conor in Winchester, Virginia. Additional principal mentors include Jennifer Blyth, Samuel Hsu, and Ellen Buoniconti.
