The always-popular Figuratively Speaking Winter Membership Exhibition is slated to open at the Art Association of Harrisburg, 21 N. Front Street, on Friday, January 13, with a reception from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Board Member Randy Michener is the exhibition sponsor, and Tracey Meloni and John Keck are the reception hosts. “Free the Tweeds” will provide musical entertainment for the evening. An awards ceremony will take place at 6:00pm, with winning artists receiving prizes in oils and acrylics, watercolours, pastels and drawings, sculpture and ceramics, photography, other media and best-of-show.
The prize juror for the exhibition was Monica Smith, Senior Professor of Art, Harrisburg Area Community College.
Prizes for the exhibition have been contributed by WCI Partners, Alan Hostetler Insurance, Kathy Marley-Dunbar, Silvers Family Dental Care, Jean and Jim Grandon, LB Smith Ford, and the Hilton Harrisburg.
All the artwork on view in Figuratively Speaking includes the human form as the main subject matter, but the styles and interpretations vary wildly, from abstraction to realism, from collage to oils to drawings. Too few galleries dare to exhibit the nude human figure these days, so Figuratively Speaking is a rare and marvelous opportunity for artists and viewers alike.
The exhibition will remain on view through February 16, with free admission seven days a week. Gallery hours are 9:30am to 9:00pm Monday through Thursday, 9:30am to 4:00pm on Fridays, 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays, and 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays.
