They say you never forget your first car. Whether it was new or just new to you, wheels shiny or scuffed, it was your ride. And our love affair with the automobile doesn’t stop at the ones we own. We all have that “dream car.” The one that makes your head turn. The one that reminds you of Grandpa. The one that you’d fix up if you could. The Hershey Harrisburg Region plays host to car-lover events year-round, and one of these cars would make an excellent souvenir!
One of the nation’s largest antique auto shows and flea markets sprawls across Hershey for four days in October, transforming the town into an automotive wonderland. Since 1955, the Eastern Division AACA National Fall Meet has been one of the region’s most anticipated events in any category. Rare parts. Meticulously rebuilt engines. Machines that have defied time. It’s impossible to imagine the scope of 9,000+ flea market spaces, 1,000 car corral spaces and 1,500+ show cars and motorcycles until you’ve seen it for yourself.
Stay an extra night or two after riding the coasters at Hersheypark® to experience the annual Elegance at Hershey at the beautiful Hotel Hershey®. The weekend event features a 5K, vintage hill climb race and an array of automobiles that are as exquisite as the grounds they grace. Proceeds from the event benefit the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and help to further automotive interests by supporting the AACA Museum and the AACA Library and Research Center.
Mecum Auctions rolls into Harrisburg, drawing thousands of car lovers and dreamers, and pulling in $20 million in sales. The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center transforms into a high octane, high stakes auction block with nationally televised coverage of all the action featuring 1,000 cars, plus vintage and collector motorcycles and tractors.
Take a Sunday drive through time at the AACA Museum, browsing three floors of car exhibits. Their oldest autos came off the line in the 1890s, and their impressive and expansive stock includes buses, trucks, motorcycles and thousands of memorabilia items.
Our neighbors in Carlisle (just 25 minutes southwest of Harrisburg) have been in the collector car (and truck) show business for decades as well. Collectors, automobile hobbyists, and engine enthusiasts flock to Carlisle Events-sponsored shows by the tens and hundreds of thousands.
If you love cars, you've gotta love road trips, right? Gas up and cruise into the heart of the Hershey Harrisburg Region. We'll keep the headlights on for you!
