They say you never forget your first car. New or just new to you, it didn’t matter if the wheels were shiny of if they’d been kicked a thousand times over. It was your ride. And our love affair with the automobile doesn’t stop at the ones we own. We all have that “dream car.” The one that makes your head turn. The one that reminds you of Grandpa. The one that you’d fix up if you could.
Three times each year, the Hershey Harrisburg Region plays host to the most knowledgeable of classic car enthusiasts, the dad just looking to share his love of cars with his kids, and everyone in between. The Elegance at Hershey, Mecum Auctions and the AACA Fall Meet each draw fans from all over the country who converge on what has truly become a car lovers’ destination.
So what’s next to roll off the automotive events production line? Only one of the nation’s largest antique auto shows and flea markets literally sprawls across all of Hershey. Since 1955, the Eastern Division AACA National Fall Meet has been one of the region’s most anticipated events in any category. It’s impossible to imagine the scope of 9,000+ flea market spaces, 1,000 car corral spaces and 1,500+ show cars until you’ve seen it for yourself. For four days in October (7-10), Hershey is an automotive wonderland. Rare parts. Meticulously rebuilt engines. Machines that have defied time.
If you’re free in mid-June 2016, we’d like to see you in Hershey at the beautiful Hotel Hershey for the annual Elegance at Hershey. The weekend event features a 5K, vintage hill climb race and an array of meticulously cared for cars that are as exquisite as the grounds they grace. Proceeds from the event benefit the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and help to further automotive interests by supporting the AACA Museum and the AACA Library and Research Center.
The World’s Largest Classic Car Auction - Mecum Auction - rolls into Harrisburg for a 3rd year in Summer 2016 after two blockbuster years including its inaugural event (and its first ever in the northeastern United States) that saw 20,000+ attendees and $21 million in sales in 2014. That’s the largest sales total for any inaugural Mecum event! The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center transforms into a high octane, high stakes auction block with nationally televised coverage of all the action featuring 1000 cars, plus vintage and collector motorcycles and tractors.
Our neighbors in Carlisle (just 25 minutes southwest of Harrisburg) have been in the collector car (and truck) show business for decades as well. Enthusiasts flock to Carlisle Events-sponsored shows by the tens and hundreds of thousands. A sea of Corvettes rolls into town July 28-30 for Corvettes at Carlisle, and that's just one of more than 10 shows collectors and automobile hobbyists can enjoy throughout the year in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
If you love cars, you've gotta love road trips, right? Gas up and cruise into the heart of south central Pennsylvania. We'll keep the headlights on for you!
