Published: Oct 11, 2011

WorkPlay, PA (Hershey Harrisburg Region) – The Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau (HHRVB) “Brave Hearts” joined local supporters to welcome the “Fly for the Cure” American Airlines aircraft arriving at Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) for the Passionately Pink for the Cure® “Pink Out” celebration supporting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Oct. 11, 2011.

“Today we represent our entire bureau in support of this event because cancer has touched many of our lives either through personal battles or with friends and family,” said Mary Smith, President of HHRVB. “Smith, herself a survivor, founded the “Brave Hearts” group made up of friends and family to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

This October the airport changed the color of ticket counters and gates to pink and employees wore pink attire including special pink-ribbon scarves and ties for many uniformed employees.

American Airlines, American Eagle and their employees will “Fly for the Cure” Oct. 3-31 to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Fly for the Cure” allows individuals to join the fight to end breast cancer by placing a pin on the virtual pinkboard map on American Airlines Facebook page to honor and celebrate someone touched by cancer. Donations of $25 or more will earn 10 AAdvantage® miles for every dollar they contribute through American’s Miles for the Cure® program. Twitter users can also tweet @AmericanAir with the name of the person to be honored during the month of October using the designated hashtag “#flyforthecure.”
