First Tee of the Susquehanna Valley to run the Pennsylvania Classic at Felicita, a new stop on the Duramed FUTURES Tour Schedule
HARRISBURG, PA (February 6, 2009) – The Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau announced today that the Pennsylvania Classic, an LPGA Duramed FUTURES Tour event would be held at Felicita Garden Resort & Spa, located in the Hershey Harrisburg region on August 21-23, 2009.
This professional women’s golf event is one of 16 events held in 14 states and the only one held in Pennsylvania. The Duramed FUTURES Tour is the developmental tour for the LPGA.
“To have a national golf organization select one of our premiere resorts to host their prestigious tour event truly speaks volumes about the pristine golf courses and luxury resorts in our region,” said Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau President Mary Smith. “We believe the combination of Felicita Garden Resort and Spa and the other unique amenities found in our area will pamper these players and their families in a way that should certainly help to draw world-class players to this tournament this year and in the future.”
“This is a very exciting opportunity for this region,” said Joe Nehila, Executive Director of The First Tee of the Susquehanna Valley. “We are pleased to be working on this event this year and to have the opportunity to grow the event in Pennsylvania with its move to the Harrisburg area.”
The First Tee of the Susquehanna Valley uses the lessons of golf -- honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment, to promote character development in young players and at-risk youth in our region. “Notonly will our young golf players get to learn the game of golf this year, they will have the chance to see professional golf at its best,” added Mr. Nehila.
The Golf Club at Felicita is one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in Central Pennsylvania. The design emphasizes the natural setting of the mountain environment while also creating an aesthetic experience. The course itself was originally set by William and David Gordon in 1963. Since 1998, the Course has been transformed through careful landscaping, where every hole is a garden. 1=Zen, 2=Magnolia, 3=Alpine, 4=Woodland, etc.
“We’re thrilled to join a distinguished list of golf courses around the country that host the LPGA players of tomorrow,” said Ryan Longenecker, General Manager, Felicita Garden Resort and Spa. “We believe Felicita will offer the players a challenging event and an experience they will not forget.”
