A Tribute to Nicholas Ruggieri
For nearly seventy years, Nicholas T. Ruggieri was one of Harrisburg’s most prominent local artists.
Ruggieri immersed himself in Harrisburg culture, participating in many art-related clubs and activities.
In the early seventies, The Patriot-News commissioned him to undergo a five-year project commemorating the 1976 United States Bicentennial. The goal was to honor this country by painting Pennsylvania’s counties and showing the beautiful scenery found throughout the Commonwealth. The result was a series of over one-hundred oil and watercolor paintings. When The Patriot-News relocated its facility in 2010, the Ruggieri collection was donated to The State Museum.
The paintings in this display are a small sample of this collection, many of which highlight the various techniques Ruggieri used to create his paintings.
This event occurs betweenDec 1, 2012 and Apr 28, 2013
